A new Star Trek series will be ordered by a TV network before 2015

Several individuals in Hollywood have been talking about launching a new TV series in the Star Trek universe.

- Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show) has said he wants “to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

- Bryan Fuller and Bryan Singer (Mockingbird Lane), “who have long (but separately) contemplated new Star Trek TV series, have discussed the possibility of pooling their resources to take a new corner of Gene Roddenberry’s multiverse to the small screen.” (Ain’t It Cool News)

- David Foster (1947 Entertainment) has proposed a series that is “set in the post-Voyager era, and is designed to return Star Trek to its original series roots in big and mighty ways, without disregarding the other series and movies.” “The series concept is fully developed, subject to change of course, with a 5-7 year series plan, pilot script and a conceptualized finale that intends to define Star Trek for generations, extensive character bios, costume and ship/set designs, and more. This is a drastic departure from the typical 8-10 page treatment of the previously pitched Star Trek series ideas that have not included even a pilot script.” (Jack Trevino, TrekWeb.com)

There are conflicting opinions circulating about whether CBS and Paramount would agree to commission or license a new Star Trek television series coincident with the run of J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek reboot film trilogy, which released its first part in 2009 and is scheduled to release its second in 2013.

This statement will be true if any television network orders and announces the production of at least one episode of a new Star Trek television series (whether from one of the aforementioned or from someone else) before the end of calendar year 2014.
